Aquarius Records Review + 2013 June Tour / Record Release + Vinyl
Found out yesterday that Aquarius Records reviewed our first record that we released in late July 2012. The good news was that he had sold a bunch of the CD and Tape Cassette and wanted more. Here is the Review - which can also be found at www.aquariusrecords.org - then search AntikytherA :
"Another outfit from the Pacific Northwest, trafficking in a sort of psychedelic doomy drift, who are friends of aQ faves Megaton Leviathan, which makes sense, the two groups occupying a similar space, but each most definitely carving out their own distinct sonic niche.
The first track here is a slowly swirling sprawl of pulled apart riffs and layered chordal crunch, crumbling distortion, and softly shimmering textures, starting out almost formless, but gradually coalescing into a churning slo-mo dirge, that manages to infuse its metallic creep with plenty of melodic jangle, the sounds chiming and keening, almost like a more riffy Sunroof!, it's not until nearly the end of the track before the drums kick in, and when they do, it's not so much propulsive or rhythmic as it is abstract and textural, the billowing clouds of psychedelic buzz wrapped around this skeletal doom drum dirge, the sound never really darkening, instead, remaining sort of blissed out, the guitars becoming more jagged and riffy, but the whole thing remaining pretty drifty.
The second track is where things get properly doomy, or as properly doomy as these guys get, the sound immediately exploding into a woozy, lumbering creep, replete with thick buzzing distortion, deep dramatic sung/spoken vox, and plenty of melody, tranced out and mesmeric, sounding a bit like OM with LOTS of guitars, a slow burn psych-doom epic, that slithers swaggers and gradually builds to soaring squalls of tangled psych guitar freakout, slipping from metallic dirge, to parts almost poppy and back again, hooks galore, but buried beneath the crumbling buzz, the song laced with occasional bursts of mathed out chaos, and often locking into tarpit hypno-rock grooves, the whole thing totally epic and majestic, but more psych than doom, more noise/post rock than metal, but with enough of doom AND metal to keep metalheads satisfied. That said, while these guys are self professed psychedelic doom gazers, we could easily imagine folks discovering this from a whole different angle, instead of psychedelic doom, something more like heavy, doomy psych. Maybe there's not much difference, but to our ears, this definitely falls further in the realm of heavy psych, the doominess just adding some serious heft.
Case in point, the 14 minute closer "An Unnatural Light", which takes a sort of Sabbathy almost stoner doom riff, and stretches it way out, repeating it over and over, the track totally tranced out, that riff, all clean guitar, swathed in clouds of cymbal shimmer, and squiggly swirls of psych guitar filigree. It's almost 5 minutes before the song really kicks in, and even then, the guitars remain clean, and almost jangly, a little bit angular, wreathed in FX, the bass sinewy and super melodic, the vocals slipping from deep monk-like chant, to full on wail. Then a few minutes later, the distortion swoops in, and finally, it begins to sound truly metallic, churning, heaving heaviness, but somehow, still sort of warped and tripped out. There's a long stretch where the guitar drops out, leaving mostly bass and drums, which reminds us a lot of Three Mile Pilot, dark and post rocky, from there on out, it's a slow build to an FX drenched, blown out psych guitar finale, all swirls of heavily flanged riffage and pounding dense drumming.
Way recommended for fans of Megaton Leviathan obviously, but really, anyone into heavy psych and psychedelic doom will flip for sure."

Mayan Psych Doom Mayan Revival! Recording soon + 2013 Tour
Fuck, its been a dark winter thus far. But at this point we start gaining LIGHT in thee North Hemispheres. Through all this cold and dark we have been crafting new music. Some of you heard 2 of the new songs while we were on tour, and the 2 shows we have played here in Portland since - and we are writing another. 3 Songs = a new full album around 40-ish min of material. Planning to Record around the End of February. Budget aside, we will find a way to mark these upon some vinyl! We need a Label! All you Moms, Dads, Friends, & Freaks out there feel free to Donate! Some shows currently in the works for PDX, Eugene, and possibly Seattle, Bellingham, Olympia , Tacoma.
Will be planning a West Coast / South West Tour Soon for April 2013.

Nov 2012 Tour!
Amazing show @ Rotture last night! Thanks to Ninth Moon Black for driving up from Eugene and playing! Thanks to Rolling thru the Universe and CONTEMPT. & Joel.
Tour since Nov 5th has been very positive! We went on the road with Jonathan Nicosia ( drums ) - whom we had never played at all before. We thought tour was not going to happen when we found out that our original drummer David Wolf had been in an accident ( unharmed!) and landed in jail for a DUI (bummer) the day before we were supposed to leave. Jonathan was confident that he could step up and make it happen. Oakland was our first time really all of us playing together and it went well. All shows after just got better and better! Thank you Jonathan! Seattle The Mercury was probably our best show of the tour! Every band that night sounded amazing!
Thanks to all our friends and new friends on the road that we played with, that came out to see us and helped us along the way!

Bay Area shows
Oakland shows were good times. We played at The STork Club and Eli's. Thanks to the venues and bands. lack Pussy had their van robbed - 3 computers........all while dude was resting in the back! good thoughts to them to get their shit back! The shows went well - Jonathan has been picking up the songs ( on Drums ) very very well. Especially for thuis only being the 2nd time all 3 of us have ever played together!
This morning --- i woke up in the van in the Mission area - others stayed up at the loft of our friend Peter whom has been super cool and has been helping us out. Thanks man!

In Memorium : Onwards and Upwards - New Drummer
Last week we had to part ways with Drummer Matt Foley. Over all it was a very hard decision to come to but all for the best. Matt played with Antikythera for over a year and contributed mountains of energy into this band. Matt helped with with songs ideas / structures as well as booking many of the shows we have played in the last year. Matt was an amazing drummer for Antikythera and the bands existence wouldn't be where it is without him. He was more a Thrash drummer than a Doom drummer and that helped create the style of what is our current songs that we just recorded with Adam Pike. Ultimately a new / different style of drumming that suites the vision of Antikythera is underway!
We are now rehearsing with Dave Wolf, a long time friend and ex-band-mate of Jeremy ( bassist ) .
Dave plays a bigger kit over all - Kick/Ride. He fucking uses drum sticks that are as fat as elephant tusks! Since we started practicing there is a small pile of kindling all over the rug and around the drum set. Great all around guy. And you prolly wont be seeing him playing / running around in his sweat soaked undies like matt did. (: take that as you will - Positiva? / Negitiva ? :)
We are playing the House show August 22nd out here at the Megaton Leviathan / Antikythera houses : And we are writing a whole new set to play for this show. Since we played with Matt Foley over the last year and a half we had a set that consisted of 2 full songs, a noise peice, and a cover of the Jesus Lizard song "fly on the wall." I wish i could say that we had more material for that time period but thats it, and another reason we are excited to be jamming with Dave. So any of ya who are interested to either see us play a whole new set, and either kill it or totally sound like shit, come out to this show!

The first version of the tape is hand numbered and limited to 61 copies. There are 3 different color covers, silver/white, gold, and red. All on a black background. Most are silver/white or gold.
There was a slight discrepancy in some of the tapes dubbed for the East End show. If you got a tape at that show and it seems to sound less full or in mono, drop by Green Noise Records on Tues, or Wed from 3-7 (where Matt works) and he'll trade one out for you! Or just come to our one of our next 2 shows.
The final, professionally packaged, shrink-wrapped, pro-tape version of our first Elp (EP/LP), will be out this fall before we hit the road again! It will include free download cards with each tape! Stoked!

Gathering in the Deadlands
Gathering in the Deadlands of Northern Califorina to pay for the AntikytherA Recording and to press it to Vinyl. I am collecting signatures down here in the Sacramento area, and small towns in its orbit such as Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Placerville and Pollock Pines. Everytime i come to this area it is like the twilight zone. There seems to be a large force field bubble over this entire populace. People all look the same, women all wearing the same Target shirt in 3 different colors, baby blue, burgundy or pink. The males wear these kaki pants or short and some lame shirt advertising some insurance company or mountain due or hot topic style crap or tribal design! I think it is a cauldron pot for a secret Lizard creature Breeding operation. Babies everywhere. Pregnant woman everywhere. Dads with crew cuts everywhere. Box stores, strip malls, miles and miles and miles of them. Crap food, fast food, lack of healthy foods, organic stores.
Lots of wealthy people out here. Apparently lots of wealth means you don't have to worry about much or even be concerned with much, of anything, that is happening in the world. All you have to do is worry about yourself, your neurotic unhappy husband or wife, and your sweet baby which you are just cookie cutting into another perfect hologram our your wealthy self. Black people hardly exist in Folsom, even worse than Portland!

While Petitioning i have asked many people what they think of the entire OCCUPY MOVEMENT and most of them have not even heard of it. Totally oblivious to what is happening in our world today. Many people don't even know what a Petition is.
Sitting in the 80+ degree weather yesterday in front of a whole foods that just opened in Folsom i spent an hour arguing with store managers and mall security about my rights to be able to work there, to practice my rights and engage the public to petition our Government. It is humorous and sad at the same time to me that i know more about the law than they do. I ended up calling the silly local Folsom Police on them when they continued to get in my way. Police arrive and explain to them that i do have a right to be there, and that they're only option in a nut shell was to serve me a citizens arrest, whereby i would be arrested. Yet they know not to do this because it would end up in a lawsuit. So the Police leave and being that i only had about 5 hours sleep the night before i sit down and have a cigarette and write these 6 lines down in my notebook.

The feeling i have when submerged in this part of America with these people and confronting them on the front lines in this way is that there certainly is a great darkness alive and it has infected millions. people don't care anymore, or if they do, and they are mad or discontent, they really have no idea on how to change anything, or how to live their life so as to affect a different outcome in this world.
The Cops and the politician are truly all bought out and serving this...Dark thousand headed BEAST of death. These store managers serve only the corporations and their wishes. And i see that when an individual practicing their freedom, their autonomy, their sovereign being and will in a conscious, aware and intentional way for a greater good.....the Corporations, seeing themselves as all power, as an authority, strike out to control and thwart this very individual from their practice. Store managers and police just being their all serving tools. I will tell you what, these managers for instance at these stores like whole foods don't give a shit about anyone or the great evolution of any humanity. They serve their masters and the $$$$$$$. They don't give a damn about the people who come into their store for healthy foods, organic foods, alternative options. They certainly will not openly tell you that they get many of their foods from Monsanto. ( if you know anything about what Monsanto dose ).
Ahh, so this is what i am doing to fund the AntikytherA Recording being done in Audible Alchemy Studios with Steve Lobdell. Afterward to be sent to be pressed to Vinyl.
I hate politics, as politics can never lead any country / nation / peoples / individual to any kind of enlightenment. But it appears i use this system, in this world source to pay for the arts. It is for sure that America ( and the world ) needs a Revolution and it is happening and will continue to intensify until there is a fruition.
this is my part in the play this last week. Ironic that being on the front lines, clearing a path through fields of unconscious armies of human bodies supports my musical creations. Better than wokring at the Plaid Pantry!
Positives to the trip thus far : i have met a handful a really awesome people with souls, gotten to see the beautiful mountains and natur of Lake Tahoe ( of which we have just arrive tonight. ) I have gotten to know my friend Christian a lot more on this trip and we have become great friends.
Previous to this trip, our studio time had been ver Intense between myself, Matt and Sam. Steve has been a great engineer and i have learned that he dose not speak in sentences but Paragraphs! He can talk endlessly about almost any band and has great ideas about arrangements and recording styles via equipment/gear/sounds.
When i return from this trip we plan to finish in the studio. Last overdubs, extras, Noise jams witch will include the lovely Amanda on keys of MACROCOSM. Vocals , mixing, mastering.
Looking forward to arriving back in Portland soon. See some good local shows, eat some good food. Finish studio recordings. Play a show on the 26th of Nov at the Megaton / AntikytherA houses. See the 20 cats that live on my property. See friends. They don't have any good shows/venues or a scene at all here in Sacramento.
